Emerging technologies can significantly enhance the monitoring and management of food production, biodiversity, natural resources, and human health. Our interdisciplinary expertise and statewide presence position us as a leader in developing, scaling, and adopting these technologies, particularly for small- and medium-sized farms and diverse ecosystems.

Opportunity

Emerging and advanced technologies can dramatically improve our ability to monitor and manage production and access to food, biodiversity and natural resources, and human health and well-being. With the extensive interdisciplinary expertise in CAS across a comprehensive portfolio of research and education, combined with our statewide Penn State Extension presence and program teams, the college represents a trusted source of science-based information and education and is uniquely positioned to lead this initiative. By deploying a suite of functional tools around this initiative, the college can take leadership in organizing a statewide effort and provide a framework for building partnerships within and beyond Penn State. This expertise can provide insights into the challenges of developing, scaling, producing, and adopting technologies, especially for small- and medium-size farms, as well as the diverse and sometimes threatened ecosystems that are representative of Pennsylvania. Moreover, we are uniquely equipped to provide educational and training opportunities to ensure a skilled workforce pipeline across the spectrum of food and natural resources.
