Innovative research, education, and discovery take place in experimental forests and farms on campus and throughout the state.
Managed by the Department of Plant Science at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, this farm is the college's largest field research facility, covering more than 600 acres for crop variety trials, studies on management practices, and the college's organic research.
The 200-acre Haller Farm houses 200 head of Angus and crossbred beef cattle. Beef animals are used for education and genetics, nutrition, and forage research.
These 88 acres of test plots at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center are managed by the Department of Entomology and used for testing new management strategies and studying insect ecology in field conditions.
Managed by the Department of Plant Science at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, this farm includes 100 acres planted in fruit crops, orchards, and small-plot research crops ranging from tomatoes to tubers.
Managed by the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, these plots are used to conduct research that can lead to the development of crops with increased resistance to serious pathogens.
Located about 13 miles southwest of the University Park campus, this 7,000-acre experimental forest serves as a field laboratory for students and faculty.
Research plots used to study management practices and ecosystem services for projects conducted jointly between the college and the USDA Agricultural Research Service.
