Explore our mission, vision, and values that drive our commitment to pioneering agricultural research, education, and sustainable solutions for global challenges.
Our Mission
We conduct research in agricultural sciences and natural resources. Our work balances fundamental research that expands our knowledge of complex biological phenomena with applied research focused on providing solutions to immediate needs. We prepare future agricultural sciences researchers and practitioners to make impactful contributions to science and society. We actively engage with key groups, especially but not exclusively those in Pennsylvania, to identify and help meet emerging needs and challenges locally and globally.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be recognized by stakeholders and peer U.S. institutions as the leading source of credible research findings and graduate student education. We aim to balance agricultural production and profitability with the sustainability of ecosystems and communities. This includes producing abundant, nutritious, safe food for all while addressing climate challenges, environmental issues, and plant, animal, and human health (i.e., One Health). We are also committed to combating biodiversity loss and supporting resilient rural communities. This vision includes a strong interest and commitment to work beyond our state’s borders.
Our Values
- Integrity —We act with integrity in our work and practice transparency in our communication.
- Inclusivity and Collaboration —We recognize the value of our human resources, encourage our people to express differing views, and welcome opportunities to broaden participation of a diverse and global workforce and clientele. We believe in the power of building community and working together to address complex challenges.
- Excellence and Recognition —We set our sights high and hold ourselves to high standards of responsibility, productivity, and improvement. We appreciate and celebrate the success of our colleagues and their contributions to achieving priority goals.
- Innovation —We pursue fundamental knowledge and inventive solutions to challenging problems and promising opportunities.
- Impact —We are committed to addressing local needs of Pennsylvania while making significant contributions to global challenges.
