Save the Date: Africa2Ag Week Announced!

Posted: May 10, 2011

The first annual Africa2Ag Week has been scheduled for August 22 - 26, 2011. The theme of this year's program is Building Collaborative Partnerships for African Agriculture.

Theme: Building collaborative partnerships for African agriculture

Objectives: The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences will host a week-long series of events focused on Africa in order to:
1.    Build strong collaborations with African partners
2.    Increase awareness of African agricultural development and Penn State’s role in this arena
3.    Increase student, staff, faculty and extension awareness of global issues and involvement in international programs

Events: Two or more scientists from African universities and CGIAR institutions will visit Penn State for that week for mutual learning and exchange. During their visit, these scientists will provide input on curricular materials, present seminars and speak in appropriate courses across the university.  Events will culminate with an all-day workshop/retreat on Friday 26th. This capstone event will include a keynote speaker, multi-disciplinary panels, smaller break-out group sessions, and informal times for networking and partnership building.  The primary objective of this retreat will be to identify means through which we can effectively leverage the expertise in US and African universities and research institutes to address the challenges in African rural development.
