Gender and Livelihoods Intern: Nairobi, Kenya

CARE | www.care.org

CARE is a leading humanitarian and development organization dedicated to fighting poverty and social injustice with a special emphasis on rights programming, gender equality, and women and girls. CARE works in a variety of contexts from protracted crises to stable development settings, as well as contexts in the nexus between these two types, and recognizes that the underlying drivers of food and nutrition insecurity are poverty, gender inequity, non-inclusive governance, poor adaptation to climate change and the inability to manage other economic and political shocks and stresses.

As part of its commitment to realizing CARE’s 2030 vision, the Food and Water Systems team, within the Program Strategy and Impact Innovation (PSI) team in CARE USA, leads CARE's work globally in ensuring fulfillment of the right to adequate and nutritious foods and clean water for all by promoting sustainable, productive, equitable and resilient food and water systems, while ensuring equitable, livable incomes and dignified livelihoods. Through the Gender, Youth and Livelihood (GYL) team, the FWS leads the support efforts on gender and livelihoods across programs and targeted countries and coordinates technical support to both CARE and partner organisations, including the UN on gender, youth and livelihoods.

The proposed internship with Penn State University is aimed at providing opportunity for students to practically learn on Gender Transformative Approaches in agriculture, but also learn effective provision of technical support, guidance, and mentorship on gender transformative approaches to different programs in Southern/East Africa (country TBD)
