International Food Policy Research Institute: IFPRI provides research-based policy solutions to sustainably reduce poverty and end hunger and malnutrition in developing countries. The position will be based in the Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion Unit.
Location of work: The position will be based out of the IFPRI headquarters in Washington, DC. IFPRI currently has a hybrid work environment that allows staff members a minimum of two days in-office work and three days remote work. The candidate can potentially be fully remote.
Job description: The selected candidate will work with an IFPRI PhD-level researcher to conduct analysis that will lead toward a jointly authored publication. The candidate will be able to select from one of our ongoing projects related to women’s empowerment in agriculture and rural areas according to their research interests. For example, the intern might support analysis of data from a randomized control trial of a gender- and nutrition-sensitive agriculture livelihoods intervention in Malawi, analyze Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) 24-hour time use data from a cross-country perspective, work with data from the Women’s Empowerment in Nutrition Index in India, or contribute to one of our other projects, in agreement with the supervisor and according to the intern’s research interests.
This position will be offered with equivalent pay to a ¾ time Grade 12 RAship for Master's students in the College of Agricultural Sciences.
Requirements: Strong applicants will have:
Experience, a strong interest in, and/or coursework in gender or women's empowerment in the context of agriculture, climate change, natural resource management, or rural livelihoods in lower middle-income countries
- Training in and experience managing and analyzing quantitative data, especially household surveys and/or impact evaluation designs
- Strong skills in the use of Stata
- Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate research findings in written format
- Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural, team-based environment

- The position is open to Master’s candidates in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State
- Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident
