Anita Behari, Ph.D. candidate in International Agriculture and Development (INTAD) and Plant Pathology, received an INTAD Competitive Grant in order to arrange a future wheat research project in Turkey.
During her recent trip to Turkey Ms. Behari visited the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and the Sakarya Agricultural Research Institute.
Ms. Behari says,"Interacting with researchers, who study and attempt to mitigate diseases on a global scale, emphasized the value of interpreting my work from multiple perspectives and on multiple scales. I was reminded how important it is to understand the bigger picture, and to be informed about the many factors influencing agriculture around the world."
Ms. Behari also noted that "this experience has provided a context for my scientific knowledge to be linked to other factors related to food security and wheat production in the West Asia- North Africa region."
The INTAD Competitive Grant Program is open to students enrolled in the Penn State University INTAD dual-title degree program to support international research.
