INTAD Student Spotlight: Megan Griffin

Megan Griffin is a first-year M.S. student in Rural Sociology and International Agriculture and Development. Previously, she has worked as a community organizer at the food justice non-profit, FRESH New London, where she organized local community to transform a blighted lot into an edible park and garden through a participatory design and grant-writing process.

She has also worked in the area of worker's rights, as a researcher for the fast food worker Fight for 15! campaign at the Service Employees International Union and before that as an organizer with taxi workers at Tenants and Workers United. Megan hopes to transfer skills from these community development and campaign processes to her work in the INTAD program. Her thesis concerns basic and applied research on the role and resilience of Yucatec Maya women farmers in the preservation of agrobiodiversity of maize.

Megan received her B.A. in Comparative Literature from Georgetown University, where much of her studies focused on Mexican and broader Latin American culture and thought. She also studied as a visiting student at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán in Mérida, Mexico.
