Internship Opportunities - December 16

Posted: December 16, 2013

There are two internship opportunities announced this week. One is for Centre Wildlife Care and the other is for Smithsonian Gardens.

Centre Wildlife Care

Applications Due: March 1, 2014

Centre Wildlife Care has part time and full time internship positions available during the summer at our facility located in Port Matilda, 10 miles from the Penn State main campus. Since CWC is a small rehabilitation facility, interns would be involved with all aspects of the rehabilitation process, which includes physical exams, care, feeding, cleaning, medical treatment, releases, etc.  Interns would gain experience handling birds, mammals and reptiles. The possibility exists for interns, depending on their interests, to concentrate on particular projects. It is not required to do the internship for credit.

Summer is the most exciting time to volunteer or intern because CWC gets 50% of the animals for the year, in May and June, usually arriving as orphaned baby wildlife. CWC needs substantially more help in the summer because of the influx of orphaned wildlife. Volunteers and interns will get experience feeding and handling a variety of orphaned baby birds and orphaned mammals.

Summer interns (full & part time)

Part time summer internships are 20 hr/wk for 13 weeks. Full time internships are 40 hr/wk for 13 wks.  There are no stipends available for part time interns.  Two full time interns will be offered a stipend of $500 per month for 3 months (13 weeks).  However, full time internships are also available without a stipend.
