Turf students excel at GCSAA CollegiateTurf Bowl competition

Turf students competed in the 21st annual Collegiate Turf Bowl at the Golf Industry Show in San Antonio, Texas in February. Penn State student teams finished in 1st, 3rd, 9th, and 13th places out of 69 teams participating in this year's competition.

Penn State placed three teams, including the champion foursome, in the top 10 of GCSAA’s 21st annual Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition presented in partnership with John Deere Golf, Feb. 26 at the Golf Industry Show in San Antonio with a fourth team finishing in 13th place.

The foursome of Chris Marra, William Ellinger, Kyle Patterson and Alexander Bonini returned to University Park with the traveling trophy and a $4,000 first-place cash prize. Teams from Penn State also took 3rd, 9th, and 13th place. The 3rd place team of Morgan Robbins, Sean Kelly, Thomas Goyne, and Kirk Bender received a $300 prize. Matthew Herrmann, Cody Woods, Austin Marsteller, and Mason Kreider made up the 9th place team. Members of the 13th place team were Troy Pelesky, Justin Lewis, Hunter Keech, and Justin Eckert. This year 252 students on 69 teams from 33 colleges and universities participated in the competition.
