Ponds are prevalent in the Pennsylvania landscape and provide enjoyment to numerous landowners. While some ponds occur naturally, most are dug or dammed by landowners for various purposes. This pond tour is aimed at helping private pond owners make informed management choices for their ponds. The tour will take place at an on-site pond. It will cover essential pond plant identification, how to conduct basic pond water quality tests, how land uses and runoff can affect ponds, and basic pond ecology. Participants should be prepared to walk outdoors on uneven terrain around the pond and have comfortable closed-toe walking shoes.

Goods From the Woods is the featured topic for this year’s easy woods walking tour. There is lots to learn about the many things we harvest and use from forests, and they are not just different types of wood! Forestry and wildlife professionals will lead the interactive tours and be on hand to answer your questions. They will also connect participants to Cooperative Extension resources about forests, wildlife, and habitat management.

Each day in the Yard and Garden Area, Master Gardeners from across the state will be available to answer landscape and garden questions at the “Ask a Master Gardener” table.

A youth activities tent and the butterfly house will be available to engage in and learn something new!

Gather eggs and simulate feeding a small flock of poultry puppets while learning about and practicing the proper use of a biosecurity mat, dedicated equipment and the proper sanitization. Kids of any age can learn how a simple change in routine can improve the chances of "Eggscaping" Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and other harmful pathogens.

Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeder's Association will share their rabbit hobby with visitors and share about uses of rabbit throughout the state!

Learn about the state 4-H Program, and learn about 4-H animal science opportunities alongside a fun game of "pin the tail" on the animal

Test your dairy knowledge, Real verses imitation display, and Wholesome corn hole board

Come learn about fungal friends and foes and see what makes plants get sick! Use microscopes to examine edible fungi from a PA farm, forest fungi and some plants that have been attacked by fungal foes.

This tour will visit each of the University- Research farms at the Rock Springs Facility. Farm managers will present a brief overview of the farm history, current research, and student involvement as well as answer participant questions.

Pesticide safety is important, wearing personal protective equipment, along with proper education are the best ways to protect yourself. In this 30 min. presentation you will learn how to select the proper PPE for the job. How to wear it correctly, and how to dispose of it when the job is finished. This talk will be worth 1 core credit towards your pesticide license recertification. You must be present for the entire presentation to receive credit. Meeting to be held in a new location this year W906 on the APD map.

Panel Discussion with Penn Future Organization and partners to discuss funding and other program initiatives to benefit local PA Farmers. Speakers will include: Doug Wolfgang, Executive Secretary, Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission; Hannah Smith-Brubaker, Executive Director, Pasa Sustainable Agriculture; and Michael Mehrazar, Advocacy Manager, PennFuture and Denise Coleman, State Conservationist, NRCS

Each year the Penn State Agricultural Safety and Health program highlights a safety topic important to the everyday lives of farm families. Join us to learn about the hazards of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) which are commonly used on the farm and for recreational activities. The team will show the potential for a rollover incident, ways to reduce the risk of an overturn, and highlight the use of personal protective equipment. There will be two ATV safety demonstrations on Tuesday and Thursday.

Beef x Dairy Cattle Tour: This tour will cover the definition of beef X dairy calves and the current marketplace for those cattle. The tour will include a visual observation of a load of crossbred beef X dairy steers and heifers being finished at the PA Department of Agriculture’s Livestock Evaluation Center. American Berkshire Association Progeny Test & Facilities Tour: This tour will lead participants through a window tour of the remodeled swine facilities, overview modern aspects of a swine production operation and discuss the goals of the American Berkshire Association Progeny Test.

Penn State Extension Master Gardeners are working with the Lopez-Uribe Lab from Penn State in a multi-year effort to increase understanding of Pennsylvania's native bee population. This community science project leverages Master Gardeners' interest in pollinators while providing advanced training on the protocols used to collect, pin, label, and identify native bees.
