Extension Units
Definition: Extension units are defined as the group of individuals supervised by an assistant director of programs. Extension units align with the extension director's office and will serve as the primary administrative unit.
The current extension units are as follows:
- 4-H Youth Development
- Agronomy and Natural Resources
- Animal Systems
- Food, Families, and Communities
- Horticulture
Brand guidelines: Units are internal administrative units and are not to be promoted to the public.
Program Teams
Definition: Program teams comprise individual extension educators, associates, and/or faculty from one or more extension units as necessary to effectively address audience priority issues. This will require a process to allocate a portion of individuals' time to one or more program teams as their expertise is required.
Brand guidelines: Program teams are focused on issues and topics relevant to audiences and stakeholders. Educators may use program team names when relevant to their work—for instance, when introducing themselves at an event to indicate their specialization. Marketing collateral and publications will note only the Penn State Extension brand rather than individual teams.
Subteams
Definition: A subteam is a group of individuals from a program team focused on developing programming and products under a particular topic or subtopic area. They are a direct result of a working group or a team going through program development process (PDP).
Brand guidelines: Subteams are internal and are not to be promoted to the public.
Working Groups
Definition: A working group is one that requires broad expertise to evaluate a trending issue or topic. Working groups are exploratory in nature and can be formed to examine new issues as they arise if the issue falls outside of an existing program team to determine if action is appropriate. Working groups are used to explore what we MIGHT do, while teams or subteams will be formed to make them operational.
Brand guidelines: Working groups are internal are not to be promoted to the public.
County Offices
Definition: Extension staff work in each of our 67 counties in Pennsylvania. Extension educators and administrative office staff provide local support and education in the communities they serve.
Brand guidelines: To build and support the extension brand, county office names should not appear on stationery, signage, giveaways, apparel, or marketing materials. Use only the Penn State Extension name and mark.
