Support the effort to strengthen food security for Penn State students and enjoy a creative use of food items at the Lion’s Pantry’s 2022 Canstruction!

Explore the intersection of student food security and art at the Lion’s Pantry’s upcoming Canstruction event! The exhibit will feature student-made structures built entirely from packaged food, which will then be donated to the Lion’s Pantry. The program will highlight the impact of the Lion’s Pantry at the University Park campus, and how students, staff, faculty and the surrounding community can support it.

The program will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 11 in the Flex Theater in the HUB. It will include a reception with free food afterward in 131 HUB.

The can structure exhibit will also be open for viewing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12 in 131 HUB. The structures will be made by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Schreyer Student Council and the Lion’s Pantry. Visitors can vote for their favorite structure to win the People’s Choice Award. Those who attend the program or view the structures will also receive a ticket to enter a prize drawing, which will include prizes like local restaurant gift cards, Penn State spirit wear and more.

Attendees are also invited to bring a non-perishable, non-expired food item to donate to the Lion’s Pantry during any of the viewing hours or the reception. Donations bins will be available in 131 HUB.

Taylor Dorsett, incoming Lion’s Pantry president, explained that “it’s crucial that we as a university come together to better serve our students. In doing this, we shed light on a very prevalent issue of food insecurity at Penn State, and work towards reducing stigma simultaneously."
