Greater Washington County Food Bank is looking for a Farm Manager - November 3, 2017 deadline to apply.

Responsibilities of the Farm Manager

  • Assist the Executive Director and Economic Development Agricultural Liaison with the development and implementation of an agricultural program in connection with the Greater Washington County Food Bank Healthy Habits Training Center (HHTC)
  • Research, envision, exhibit, and ultimately implement agricultural strategies for fully utilizing the acreage and buildings adjacent to the Food Bank
  • Seek out and utilize professional assistance volunteers to direct engineering and architectural plans
  • Establish programmatic goals, execute strategies, and evaluate the successes of a multiplicity of innovative agrarian and rural food cultivating endeavors
  • Participate in coverage and publicity of agricultural programs at "The Farm" and HHTC events
  • Represent Greater Washington County Food Bank Farm and HHTC/Ag Program at meetings and various community events
  • Help raise awareness in support of educational ag programs
  • Helps obtain program funding by preparing grants for submission to appropriate parties
  • Build relationships with the agricultural community and governmental bodies so to advocate for sustainability
  • Provides updates to the Executive Director and Board of Directors as necessary
  • Assists with recruitment, coordination of scheduling, and training of program interns and volunteers
  • Operate and maintain state-of-the-art hydroponics and aquaponics growing facilities
  • Participate in all aspects of physically demanding agricultural field work
  • Develop marketing solutions and retail partnerships for agricultural products
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Individual to identify and develop partnerships with civic organizations, communities, schools and local government to build awareness of food insecurity in Washington County
  • Candidate will have the ability to facilitate agricultural solutions within the communities and nonprofit organizations in Washington County
  • Abilities to envision alternatives and employ cutting edge technology in the development of best practices in training individuals and groups as well as producing a variety of crops that will supply food for the community

Skills, requirements and qualifications

  • BS in Agriculture, Sustainability, Systems Management, Agribusiness, or Soil and Crop Management
  • Visionary, thorough and articulate with strong collaborative skills and a solid understanding of food systems
  • Ability to independently initiate and carry out projects and activities
  • Good client interactions skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as negotiation skills
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Knowledge of computers and Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Publisher
  • Good leadership skills with the potential for further development
  • Understanding of budget control, expenses, and allocations
  • Reliable transportation and current valid driver's license
  • Attention to detail

Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications. Application deadline: November 3, 2017. This nonexempt position may be either full-time or part-time.
