The Community Service Federal Work Study Program (CSFWS) has the following opportunities available for Summer '21:
Job Position Title: Support Staff
Community Partner: The Arboretum
Location: On Campus / In-Person Work
Days/Hours: 6-8 hours, TBD upon placement
Description of Position Duties: Provide support to The Arboretum's staff, serving the needs of the program and the community as needed. Specific tasks will be assigned based on the program's needs and the student's strengths and interests.
Job Position Title: Educational Program Support
Community Partner: Frost Entomological Museum
Location: On Campus / Hybrid Work
Days/Hours: 6-8 hours, TBD upon placement
Description of Position: This position would provide support to the Frost Entomological Museum with specimen cataloguing, as well as other areas of need TBD with the site supervisor at the time or placement.
Job Position Title: ReStore Assistant
Community Partner: Habitat for Humanity/Restore
Location: Bellefonte, PA / In-Person Work
Days/Hours: 10-15 hours, TBD upon placement
Description of Position Duties: Provide support to ReStore's staff, serving the needs of the program and the community as needed. Specific tasks will be assigned based on the program's needs and the student's strengths and interests.
Job Position Title: Anti-Hunger Program Support
Community Partner: Moshannon Valley YMCA
Location: 113 North 14th Street, Philipsburg, PA/In-Person Work
Days/Hours: TBD upon placement (likely 10-15 hours/week)
Description of Position Duties: In this position, CSFWS students will support the YMCA's Anti-Hunger Program. In addition to the backpack program the YMCA is currently hosting six food distributions twice a month throughout the county, and working with many different state agencies on securing food sources.
Job Position Title: Educational Program Support
Community Partner: Pasto Agricultural Museum
Location: 2710 West Pine Grove Road, Gate K, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865
Days/Hours: 10-15 hours/week; Days/times TBD with site supervisor at placement
Description of Position Duties: Provide support to organization's staff, serving the needs of the program and the community as needed. Specific tasks will be assigned based on the program's needs and the student's strengths and interests.
Job Position Title: Assistant Naturalist
Community Partner: Shaver's Creek Environmental Center
Location: 3400 Discovery Road, Petersburg, PA 16669 / In-Person Work
Days/Hours: Summer 2021 position - up to 40 hours/week; days/times TBD with site supervisor at placement
Description of Position Duties: Assistant Naturalists get to lead games/activities and sing songs along the trail while providing additional support to the group leader at the environmentally based summer camp at Shaver's Creek. Training begins in early June; camp and additional training opportunities continue through mid-August.
Job Position Title: Grounds/Gardens Maintenance & Support
Community Partner: State College Friends School
Location: 1900 University Drive, State College, PA 16801 / In-person Work
Days/Hours: 15-20 hours/week; days/times TBD with site supervisor at placement
Description of Position Duties: Position includes possibly physically demanding day to day garden projects to keep this community gathering space/grounds and associated outdoor areas running smoothly. Includes but not limited to watering, weeding, weed-eating, tree, and hedge trimming, planting, digging, emptying classroom compost, turning compost bins, maintaining pond and winterizing, mulching, and pruning. Responsible for keeping records of seeds and plants installed. Plus other tasks, as needed. Use management skills leading or co-leading volunteer individuals or groups in garden projects. Use leadership skills also to lead a virtual lesson for each classroom, age, and development-specific, related to garden work of choice - plants, insects, etc. Potential to spearhead a special project, options include either: Create and coordinate master composter workshop for teachers and children and design a new method of communicating which bin needs to be turned into which bin, or Build and implement plans to engage community in the garden, or Research, design, and plant bee-supporting garden, or Identify, inventory, and research bee and food use for established plants in gardens, or a new plan agreed on between Grounds and Gardens Supervisor and CSFWS student.

- Undergraduate and graduate students participating in this program earn $12.00/hour
- Students must be eligible for summer Federal Work-Study*
- Summer placement considerations require students to have a student aid review with the CSFWS Office
- May 2021 graduates are not eligible
