Congratulations Olivia Barner for being selected Agriculture Student of the Month for April 2021! Agriculture Student of the Month is a prestigious award given out by the College of Agricultural Sciences Student Council to a student that demonstrates actions that benefit their club and the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Olivia Barner is majoring in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at University Park. She is pursuing a minor in International Agriculture and she is writing a proposal for a non-governmental organization for young women in Kenya. Her activities demonstrate the values of an exemplary College of Ag Sciences student. Barner’s deep-seated involvement in the College of Agricultural Sciences make her an honorable student and a great role model.

Olivia is the sitting president of Earth House at Penn State. Earth House is a special living option for students that share a passion for agriculture and the environment. As president, Olivia leads social events, community service opportunities, business meetings, and a number of other activities. She uses her platform to make a difference in the Penn State community by promoting the College of Agricultural Sciences and environmental sustainability.

Barner serves as One Health Chair in Pre-vet Club. The One Health committee focuses on education and public outreach through the One Health Newsletter, and their strong relationship with Penn State Extension and the Pennsylvania One Health Task Force. By serving as chair of the committee, Olivia has distinguished herself as a leader in the Pre-vet Club.  Olivia serves as a mentor for undergraduates in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences program in her spare time. She also helped plan and organize the Pre-vet club stayover program and worked for Dr. Acar as a summer camp counselor. Outside of the College of Ag Sciences Barner serves as the president of Presbyterian Student Fellowship and fluently speaks three languages.

Barner will be attending University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in the fall of 2021. On behalf of College of Agricultural Sciences Student Council, we would like to thank Olivia for her work and dedication to the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State.
