The Office of Student Activities is proud to announce applications are open for the 2019 Penn State Leadership Institute – a week long leadership program focused on emotional intelligence and social change.
The Leadership Institute approaches leadership as a process, not a position, and we invite students at all levels of leadership who are returning to campus for Fall 2019 to apply today. Thanks to support from The Student Initiated Fee, the cost to participants is $100 (fee waivers available), which covers all meals, transportation and lodging for the week. The Institute will be held at Camp Blue Diamond from May 5-11, 2019. Applications are due Monday, March 18th by 11:59 pm.
The foundation for the curriculum of the institute is pulled from both The Social Change Model (Skendall, Ostick, Komives, Wagner & Associates) and Emotional Intelligence 2.0 (Bradberry & Greaves) and approaches leadership with the following assumptions:
- Leadership is a process, not a position
- Leadership is values based
- Leadership is inclusive and accessible to all people
- Leadership is socially responsible; it impacts change on behalf of others
- Leadership is collaborative
- Community Involvement/service is a powerful vehicle for leadership
We believe the Leadership Institute will help not only develop leadership skills, but also provide a unique opportunity for students to build authentic and meaningful relationships with like minded individuals. When asked what the most impactful part of the Institute was, participants in the program last year shared:
- "The relationships that I have been very lucky to have been given the opportunity to make. I feel like I could have made some lifelong friends".
- "Creating spaces for interaction and conversation between a more diverse range of PSU students. I really loved and appreciated this".
