The 21st Animal Welfare Assessment Contest is going virtual once again this year. The Penn State team had a great experience last year, and we would love to have some students join this year’s team. Dr. Ann Macrina and Dr. Nancy Dreschel are putting together resources and offering in-person talks and scenarios to interested students who would like to participate. There are divisions for both undergraduate and graduate students.
This year the three species featured in the assessment scenarios are:
- Psittacines as Pets
- Cats in a Research Setting
- Boars in Boar Studs
There will also be educational lectures and a poster session featuring animal welfare research from participants during the contest, so if you have been involved in undergraduate or graduate research related to animal welfare, this is your opportunity to give your research a broader audience.
No experience is necessary – if you are interested and want to learn, come to the first meeting! All majors and years are welcome.
