Students should apply by April 21, 2020.

The University Libraries in partnership with the Schreyer Honors College is pleased to announce that the 2020 Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis Award is moving forward via Zoom. The submission deadline has been extended to April 21 to coincide with the new Schreyer Honors College thesis submission deadline of April 20.

The University Libraries initiated this annual competition to emphasize the importance of utilizing quality research methods and employing a thorough understanding of the legal and ethical issues related to the use of information—both key components of academic excellence. For any student required to complete a thesis as a graduation requirement (Schreyer Honors student, Paterno Fellows, etc.), it is the capstone of their educational experience at Penn State. This competition recognizes the discerning inquiry and diligent research undertaken by scholars in preparation for the completion of each thesis.

Students interested in applying for the award must complete an online application, have a faculty statement of support, and submit a copy of the final thesis. The competition includes a review of the submitted theses by a faculty jury. Three finalists will be selected to prepare a public oral presentation, which will be held by Zoom on Thursday, May 7 at 3:30 PM.

The award winner receives $1,250, while second and third place recipients receive $750 and $500, respectively.
