Proposal deadline June 1, 2018, for the 54th Annual Penn State University Summer Leadership Conference.

The 54th Annual Penn State University Summer Leadership Conference (SLC) will be August 2-4, 2018 at Penn State University Park. As the planning for this exciting conference continues, the SLC Planning Committee is excited to share the Educational Breakout Session Call for Proposals.

Over 200 students from across all of Penn State's campuses will attend various educational sessions over their time at University Park. This year three components comprise the educational programming for the SLC:

  • General Sessions: large group presentations with keynote presenters
  • Pride Groups Meetings: Led by staff from across the Commonwealth and includes students from across all of the campuses
  • Educational Breakout Sessions: Four (60) minute sessions with 10-12 options each session

We hope that you will submit a proposal for an Educational Breakout Session (Call for Proposals) that encompasses the vision and learning outcomes outlined below; helping ensure that we can provide an exciting and thought provoking conference for our students.

Vision:
The Penn State Summer Leadership Conference will provide a challenging and motivating experience for participants. This opportunity will help them become empowered, confident leaders, both personally and professionally. Students will be inspired to lead purposeful lives while upholding the Penn State values.

Learning Outcomes:
Students attending the PSU Summer Leadership Conference will:

  • Enhance essential skills and competencies including ethical decision making, creative education and innovation, group dynamics, and conflict management.
  • Explain the importance of embracing a diverse and inclusive community as it relates to multicultural competency.
  • Define their leadership values and philosophies through self-awareness exercises.
  • Demonstrate how their role as a student leader at Penn State can be applied to their future.

Adult Learner Track
We are excited this year to add an Adult Learner Track to our educational sessions/workshops. With this in mind, when submitting your proposals for educational sessions, please indicate in your submission how your workshop would be appealing to adult and veteran students. This does not mean your workshop needs to focus solely on the adult learner, just that you will be aware of the maturity of a nontraditional audience and will be able to appropriately incorporate them into your presentation and/or activities. We hope to have at least two workshops within each educational breakout session that meets the diversity of our adult learner participants.

The Educational Breakout Sessions Committee is chaired by Dan Puccio, Associate Director of Student Affairs, Penn State York. If you have any questions, his email is .

Thank you for your consideration to submit a proposal (Call for Proposals). Please submit your proposal by June 1, 2018. We look forward to learning from you!
