Weslie Khoo and Haoshu Zhang's served pasta made with cricket flour to Ag Springboard judges in 2017 to win the $7,500 grand prize. This summer their cricket pasta made a splash in the Big Apple. Khoo will talk about his journey Tuesday, September 18, 6-7:30 pm, 6 Armsby Building.
Treating judges to samples of pasta made with cricket flour helped Weslie Khoo and Haoshu Zhang's team win the $7,500 grand prize at the Ag Springboard student business pitch contest in 2017.
Selling cricket-fortified pasta to adventurous eaters this past summer helped the pair learn more about consumer acceptance of food made with insects, and netted them some press coverage in New York newspapers.
Khoo, a Ph.D. student in food science and co-founder of Bold Foods, will talk about his journey as an entrepreneur and answer students' questions during an open house September 18, 6-7:30 pm in 6 Armsby Building.
Bold Foods made a splash this spring at the International Night Market food festival in Queens for adventurous consumers looking to try unfamiliar, ethnic dishes.
