4-H is a Community of Young People all across America who are learning leadership, civic engagement, and life skills. Pennsylvania 4-H serves youth from 5-18 years old. The main focus of 4-H is learning through hands-on as well as digital projects, alongside screened adult volunteers. 4-H Offers a Learning Experience for Everyone, from raising livestock to programming robots. The programs delivered through Penn State Extension with County Educators providing aces to learning and fun in our communities.
Children and youth can learn about the many interactive activities offered by 4-H and other youth organizations. Featuring hands-on activities, demonstrations, or presentations. All week long, explore with microscopes the diseases of plant, experience fish identification, get up close and personal with rabbits, and test your dairy knowledge!
Week Long Exhibits
- Pennsylvania 4-H Animal Tails - Learn about the state 4-H Program, and learn about 4-H animal science opportunities alongside a fun game of "pin-the-tail" on the animal.
- PA Dairy Princess and Promotion Services Inc - Test your own dairy knowledge, real vs. imitation, and the milk: from farm to table road map. Meet local and state dairy royalty. Test your knowledge with different dairy facts and figures by spinning the wheel. See if you can identify which food products are: Real vs. Imitation. Participate in the "Wholesome" corn hole board activity. You can also visit our second booth in the Dairy and Livestock Tent #1 area for sampling of a dairy product.
- Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeder's Association will share their rabbit hobby with visitors and share about uses of rabbit throughout the state!
- PSU Plant Pathology - Plants Get Sick Too! - Hands-on children's activities examine forest fungi, cultivated mushrooms and plants that are 'sick' with common plant diseases. Microscopes and magnifying glasses can be used to get a close look at the edible fungi from a PA Farm, forest fungi, and plants that have been attacked by fungal foes.
- On the Farm Education - The Lands at Hillside will provide information about creating learning environments on your farm.
- Governor's Youth Council - Fishing, Hunting and Conservation will provide information on getting involved in PA.
- High Pathogen Avian Influenza (HPAI) - Egg-scape HPAI by learning how to make simple changes the feeding routine to reduce contacting HPAI and other harmful pathogens... for Kids of any Age! Gather eggs and simulate feeding a small flock of poultry puppets while learning about and practicing the proper use of a biosecurity mat, dedicated equipment and proper sanitization. One of our Penn State Extension biosecurity educators will be onsite to discuss how to stop the spread.
