The Penn State Agricultural Safety and Health program highlights a safety topic that is important to everyday life. Join us to learn about the hazards of skid steer operation. The team will introduce skid steer dangers, operational recommendations, and practical safety solutions related to blind spots. The Farm Safety Demonstration Area (SD) will also be used by commercial drone companies to demonstrate the safe use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
Each day, we will offer the Farm Incident Preparedness Program. Agriculture is one of the most dangerous occupations, with farmers, farm workers, and family members involved in serious incidents on farms every year. This is a one-hour awareness course that teaches how to safely assist the victim of a farm incident and call for help without putting themselves in danger.
On Wednesday, RescueTechs LLC and Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company will do two demonstrations of a staged ag rescue emergency to show how first responders approach the scene to properly manage a tractor rollover incident.
PSU College of Medicine and Geisinger Health Trauma Systems will provide Stop the Bleed training daily. The training lasts approximately 20 minutes, and ongoing classes will be held daily from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, classes will be available from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, then from 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM. After completing the training, families will receive a free Stop the Bleed kit (while supplies last).
The Penn State Pullers, a student engineering design team based in Penn State's Ag and Biological Engineering program, will highlight the ¼-scale tractor they designed and built for a ¼ Scale Tractor Student Design Competition at an international agricultural engineering conference. They will do a daily demonstration.
Visit the Ag Safety tent for free, practical solutions to increase the visibility of farm equipment on roads and of children on the farm. We have Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblems for equipment, backup cameras, mirrors, hearing protection, and high-visibility shirts/vests for children (while supplies last).
