The College-wide rollout of GlobalProtect is complete and faculty and staff should use it instead of Cisco AnyConnect as your virtual private network (VPN).

Ag IT asks that College of Ag faculty and staff immediately begin using GlobalProtect exclusively, on both Penn State-owned and personal devices, to access secure resources while not connected to a Penn State network. It is important that you make this transition today because as of June 1, 2021 Cisco AnyConnect will no longer provide access to Penn State resources.

When is GlobalProtect needed? A VPN such as GlobalProtect is needed to access sensitive Penn State resources such as file shares (not OneDrive or SharePoint), SIMBA, VoIP Portal for managing your telephone settings, LIAS (Library Access) and security enclaves when the device, personal or Penn State-owned, is not on a Penn State network.

Of note, GlobalProtect is not required and will not interfere when accessing public-facing services such as www.psu.edu, Microsoft O365, email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Zoom, Jabber, etc.

Instructions for downloading and installing GlobalProtect VPN for your personal computer (Windows, Mac and Linux) or mobile device (Android and iOS) can be found via this link to the Penn State IT Knowledge Base.

Additional resources can also be found on the GlobalProtect How To section of the Ag IT website.
