A scientist in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences has received a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to lead a team conducting research on using biofilters to mitigate methane from enteric emissions produced in livestock facilities.

Penn State’s general support funding remains flat for third consecutive year

Penn State’s general support appropriation will remain level for the third consecutive year, as the Pennsylvania General Assembly approved the University’s nonpreferred appropriations bill on July 7 as part of the commonwealth’s 2022-23 budget. The $42.7 billion budget package, which has been signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf, also includes a 5% funding increase for Penn State Agricultural Research and Extension and $2.35 million in new funding for Invent Penn State.  

Penn State employees are reminded to help stop the spread of spotted lanternfly

The discovery this week of two spotted lanternfly nymphs on the University Park campus is a reminder to Penn State employees of their role in helping to stop the spread of the invasive pest, which poses a threat to Pennsylvania’s economy by damaging crops, landscapes and natural ecosystems.

Harbaugh Faculty Scholars named in College of Agricultural Sciences

Two faculty members in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences have received funding to support the development of innovative curricula under the college’s Harbaugh Faculty Scholars program. Justine Lindemann, assistant professor of community development and resilience, and Ricky Bates, professor of horticulture, received awards under the program, which was created by a gift from Penn State alumnus Earl Harbaugh and his wife, Kay.
