This series of presentations from faculty and staff in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences will be hosted every month at the the Village at Penn State Retirement Community.

Speakers will address major areas of focus for the college, including food, human health and disease, globalization, sustainability, agricultural production, and more. Each session runs from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. and will be held in the Lion's Den room.

First Investigation of Stream Health (FISH) Workshop

The Penn State Agriculture and Environment Center, in collaboration with The Penn State Pasto Agricultural Museum, are hosting two in-person workshops for the FISH Protocol and the Homeowner's Guide to Stormwater. Both events will take place at the Pasto Agricultural Museum, 2710 W Pine Grove Rd Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865, just behind Ag Progress Days. The first event, on Thursday August 5 from 6-8pm, will be a family friendly, interactive workshop. This workshop teaches participants how to evaluate and track their nearby stream through a citizen science tool, FISH. This event will include walking on groomed trails and participants will have the option to walk in the shallow stream to observe aquatic habitats.

Habitat Management for Deer and Other Wildlife Tour

This tour will focus on management of existing field and forest habitats as well as food plots. It will include equipment demonstration and maintenance tips. As part of a Quality Deer Management System, the goal is to improve habitat for many wildlife species while producing healthier deer. Visit habitat demonstration plots (with equipment demo) in the woodlot and neighboring fields. Note: walking/standing involved. No restrooms available.

Portable Poultry Bedding Processor-SARE/ Warm Season Grasses

Demonstration of a portable bedding processor unit (funded by a SARE grant). The unit accepts switchgrass or other grass material. It moves through a chopper into a hammer mill, then goes into a trommel mill for dust removal. The processor contains all the components necessary to efficiently produce quality dust-free bedding.
