Dell Support

Call 1-800-234-1490 to reach Dell Technical Support.

Prior to calling Technical Support, you will need to:

  1. Locate the Express Service Code and Service Tag of the computer.
    • Enterprise Dell computers have a Penn State label with this information. The label is located on the lid of a laptop. Desktops will usually have the label on the front or top of the computer.

    • If your Dell doesn't have a Penn State label, you can look for the Express Service Code and the Service Tag on the bottom of a laptop or the rear of a desktop.
    • See 'Using System Information' below for an alternate means of finding the Service Tag.
  2. Locate the make and model of the computer.
    • Examples: Optiplex 790. Latitude E6520
    • See 'Using System Information' below for an alternate means of finding the model information.
  3. Call 1-800-234-1490 from a phone that will allow you to be in front of the computer while you are on the phone.
  4. Once connected to Technical Support, choose options based on the model of your machine (desktop, laptop, OptiPlex, Dimension, Latitude, etc) in order for your call to be routed to the appropriate technician. Be ready to enter the Express Service Code when prompted.

 

Using System Information

The System Information application will show you the System Name of the computer. For Enterprise Dell computers, the System Name is the Service Tag. System Information will also show you the model of the computer.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start and then All Programs.
  2. Slide right to Accessories, choose System Tools, then System Information.
  3. In System Information, look for needed fields.

Windows 7

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. In the Search programs and files box, enter System Information and press Enter
  3. In System Information, look for needed fields.
