Over the upcoming weeks, Ag IT's Cyber Hygiene journey will focus on Ransomware.

Cyber Hygiene: Understanding Ransomware
What is ransomware?
According to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, “Ransomware is an ever-evolving form of malware designed to encrypt files on a device, rendering any files and the systems that rely on them unusable. Malicious actors then demand ransom in exchange for decryption.”
Why should I be concerned?
Ransomware attacks have been on the rise for several years and Universities are prime targets. Typically, Universities…
- Allow for and promote the easy exchange of ideas and information
- Include large research centers housing incredible amounts of intellectual property
- Store valuable personal information such as social security numbers, financial information, and, when a medical center is present, health information
Next steps
The Ag Community should watch for a series of educational communications about identifying malicious behavior and protecting devices and data from attack.
