“Hey Siri! How long do I cook a 25 lb. turkey in the microwave?” “Seriously? You’re trying that one on me?” “Alexa: How much rum do I need to keep a kettle of Hot Buttered Rum throughout the holiday? Is it different if the in-laws are visiting?” “Have you seen the barrels of rum in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies? Yeah, more than that.” “Google! What do I do if the whole office network fails during the holiday break?” “You call your friends and colleagues at Ag IT, just like always!”

Following the Penn State calendar, the Ag IT HelpDesk will be closed during the December Break - December 24 through January 1. While the University Park campus will be like a ghost town, we know that many of your offices will be open and we're prepared to help you with emergency situations.

Emergency support will be available every day between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. except December 25 and January 1. In the event of an emergency service outage such as the loss of office networking - Internet and/or email - or the loss of server-based documents, please call 814-865-1229, indicate that you have an emergency and briefly explain the nature of the outage. This information will be passed to on-call IT staff to help you.

Non-emergency requests received by telephone during the holidays will be entered as a routine helpdesk ticket and will be responded to beginning on January 2. Alternately, you can send non-emergency help requests for assistance after the holiday break by using the helpdesk web form at https://agsci.psu.edu/it/help-request or send email to AgCompSupport@psu.edu.

Bonus Points! Please note that Ag IT asks that - where feasible - your computers be logged off, but remain turned on and connected to the network when you leave for the holiday break. This will ensure that all critical security updates are applied as scheduled so that you don't have an unexpected delay when returning and starting up the PC. As always, office servers and network equipment should NOT be powered down at any time, even during extended holiday breaks.
