In November 2020, the University announced that our current virtual private network (VPN) software, Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility VPN client, would be replaced with a new VPN client called GlobalProtect. This change will affect both University-owned and personal computers that remotely connect to secure Penn State resources (examples include the VoIP portal, SIMBA, LIAS - Library Access and security Enclaves).
Ag IT will begin a phased GlobalProtect rollout on March 30, 2021, to all University-owned computers with Cisco AnyConnect VPN installed. Barring no unforeseen complications, future implementations will continue with two units per week through June. Ag IT consultants will reach out to affected individuals in each unit prior to their scheduled GlobalProtect installation date.
GlobalProtect installation will happen quietly in the background. Ag IT will use BigFix, our computer management tool, to push the software to your University-owned computer. All we ask is that you keep the computer turned on and online when it is your unit's turn for implementation.
Instructions for downloading and installing GlobalProtect VPN for your personal computer (Windows, Mac and Linux) or mobile device (Android and iOS) can be found via this link to the Penn State IT Knowledge Base.
Additional resources can also be found on the GlobalProtect How To section of the Ag IT website.
