The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Program's student outreach team met ag sciences students with information and inspiration at the Oct. 10 Career Day at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Christopher Zimmermann and Monica Caldwell, of the E&I student outreach team, are ready to help agricultural sciences students Make It Happen at the Career Fair.
Ag Sciences students Monica Caldwell, Mike DeVito, Christopher Zimmermann and College of Communications student Sarah Giegerich are the Make It Happen Team, part of the E&I Program.
Their mission is to make sure ag sciences students know what entrepreneurship means -- and that there are many options to explore it:
- entrepreneurship classes
- the ENTI minor
- participating in Global Entrepreneurship Week, Nov. 12-16
- pitching an idea at a competition like Ag Springboard
- connecting with Dr. Mark Gagnon at the College of Agricultural Sciences mag199@psu.edu
- checking out Invent Penn State
- checking out Happy Valley LaunchBox
Students (L to R) Monica Caldwell, Mike DeVito, Sarah Giegerich and Christopher Zimmermann with Dr. Mark Gagnon (center), Harbaugh Entrepreneurship Scholar and Entrepreneurship Coordinator.
Early in the semester, the Make It Happen student team brainstormed about how to connect with ag sciences students about all the E&I Program has to offer them in a memorable way.
How could they give students something useful and long-lasting to solve a problem at the career fair?
They came up with providing bright orange lanyards with the E&I name and Make It Happen tagline to display students' nametags. -- and help students stand out as future innovators to prospective employers.
After the event, students have something useful to keep track of their keys and remind them to take a step forward on their ideas.
Students in fall 2016 created the Make It Happen tagline and campaign as a way to explain and connect with students about entrepreneurship. Alumnus Callie Rojewski designed the Make It Happen graphics.
At the Career Day event, the Make It Happen students greeted ag sciences students, handed out lanyards, collected contact information, learned about students' interests and gave a few pep talks to nervous students.
Watch for the Make It Happen team throughout the semester, usually with something bright orange, and always with lots of information for ag sciences students.
If you'd like students to talk or meet with your group, contact Dr. Mark Gagnon.
