Digital Education

The Digital Education group designs and manages online learning for the College of Agricultural Sciences, both credit courses for Penn State students and non-credit courses for Extension.

Our vision is that:

Students, wherever they are, can access essential, relevant credit-based and non-credit digital education and knowledge from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Penn State Extension.

Our group manages the digital education portfolio for the College of Agricultural Sciences. We provide online course production and support, including course design, development, and maintenance, to teaching faculty and to Extension. Our goal is to foster a collaborative relationship with educators and promote best practices in the use of digital technologies for online education. We strive to create high quality and accessible content that promotes learner engagement.

Digital Education is composed of two teams:

Credit Team

Formerly the eLearning team, the Digital Education - Credit Team team supports the development and management of over 50 online courses for the twelve Online Degree and Certificate programs offered by the College of Ag Sciences. We partner with faculty to design quality online educational opportunities to meet the needs of Penn State students, wherever they are located. The Credit team manages online courses in Canvas, Penn State’s learning management system.

Non-credit Team

The Non-credit Team supports online course development as well as video production for Penn State Extension. Extension offers 40+ online courses and trainings, available to anyone to register and purchase through the Extension website. Our team of instructional designers collaborates with Extension specialists to build and maintain courses, ranging from short 30-minute trainings such as for pesticide application recertification credits, to longer, more in depth courses, such as Beekeeping 101, Beef Production and Management, and Food Safety and Sanitation for Manufacturers.
