Instructions to add an opt-out or unsubscribe footer to a Penn State LISTSERV template.

To setup your LISTSERV to automatically include the required opt-out language, you must update two templates:

  • BOTTOM_BANNER
  • BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML

Steps to Add an Unsubscribe Footer to a LISTSERV

  1. Login to the Penn State LISTSERV Mailing List Management Interface.
  2. On the navigation bar, click: List Management >> Customization >> Mail Templates.

Update the BOTTOM_BANNER Template

  1. If you manage multiple lists, select your list from the dropdown box.
  2. In the "Select Template Category" dropdown box, select Top and Bottom Banners.
  3. Select Bottom banner for plain text postings [BOTTOM_BANNER].

  4. Click the Edit Template button.
  5. Copy the following text:
        -- This email was sent on behalf of the College of Agricultural Sciences, The Pennsylvania State University, Ag Administration Building, University Park, PA 16802. For any questions or problems, contact the list administrator at &OWNER or Ag Communications and Marketing at agmarcom@ag.psu.edu You received this email because you are subscribed to the &TITLE (&LISTNAME) mailing list. If you would like to unsubscribe from this list, simply send an email to &LISTNAME-UNSUBSCRIBE-REQUEST@&MYHOST. No subject or message is necessary in the email. --
  6. Paste it into the Contents field.

  7. Click the Update button.

Update the BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML Template

  1. After saving your changes to the BOTTOM_BANNER template, click the Backbutton.

  2. Make sure your list is still selected in the Select List dropdown box.
  3. In the "Select Template Category" dropdown box, select Top and Bottom Banners.
  4. Select Bottom banner for HTML postings [BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML].
  5. Click the Edit Template button.
  6. Copy the following text, and Paste it into the Contents field.

  7. Click the Update button.

Email Footer Example

By adding the above code to your LISTSERV template, the following footer will be automatically added to your emails when they are sent. Note: The "List Administrator" link will create a new email to the LISTSERV owner.
