MFA INITIAL ENROLLMENT: Enrolling a Phone as an Authentication Method

Use the following instructions to initially enroll in Microsoft Multi-Factor authentication using a phone number. NOTE: These instructions are for enrolling your FIRST/initial authentication method. If you are trying to enroll a secondary method, please follow the links at the bottom of this page.

  1. Go to accounts.psu.edu/mfa
  2. Scroll down and click the BLUE Enroll in MFA button
  3. Click Next, if you see a screen indicating you need to provide more information
  4. If prompted, log in with your PSU Email address and password
  5. Click the I want to use a different method link
  6. Select Phone from the drop-down menu
  7. Click Add
  8. Enter your Phone Number
  9. Choose the whether to be called or texted
    1. Call will require you to answer and press the # key
    2. Text will send you a 6 digit code that you will need to enter
  10. Click Next
  11. Click Next
  12. Answer the test call and press the # key or enter the 6 digit code texted to your phone
  13. Click Done

ENROLLING A SECONDARY AUTHENTICATION METHOD

After you have enrolled an initial device, it is STRONGLY recommended that you enroll a secondary method. Here are links to instructions for enrolling secondary authentication methods.
