NIH has issued a new Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy, effective January 25, 2023.

NIH has issued a new Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy, effective January 25, 2023. This new policy requires ALL grant applications or renewals that generate Scientific Data to include a data management and sharing plan (DMSP). The policy sets an expectation for researchers to share data to the maximum extent possible (with the understanding that certain factors may limit or preclude sharing). Such plans will be subject to NIH’s approval and, if approved, will be incorporated into the terms and conditions of any resultant grant. Any deviations from an approved plan will require NIH’s prior approval. Failure to adhere to the approved plan may result in early termination and/or other enforcement actions.
