Amanda Kirsten proofreads all materials produced by Creative Services (print publications, digital and print marketing materials, the occasional swag) and copyedits manuscripts for extension educational publications (guides and fact sheets). She also reviews digital extension marketing communications (emails, announcements, newsletters) for the Marketing Team. Sure, proofreading is nifty enough, but her favorite task is building clean Word documents so the designers can make nicely designed pieces out of them. Amanda's greatest editorial accomplishment to date in her nearly twenty years on Ag Hill is the Penn State Extension Master Gardener Manual, for which she built and copyedited the manuscript and proofread the 800-page layout.

Fresh out of college in May 2000 with a B.A. in History from Penn State, Amanda started her career in book publishing as an editorial assistant with The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group in Lanham, Maryland. She returned to University Park in February 2002 to start her tenure on Ag Hill as a writer/editor with Information and Communication Technologies, the predecessor of Ag Communications and Marketing. While the department name has changed, Amanda’s main responsibility has remained the same: to provide editorial quality and consistency to our publications and marketing materials to benefit the people and agriculture industry of Pennsylvania and beyond.
