What will I see on an Ag Hill tour?

The Ag Hill tour is first and foremost an opportunity to hear from current Ag Sciences students about their Penn State experiences! Your tour guides are our "Ag Advocate" student ambassadors, and they love to answer your questions! The Advocates will take you on an approximately 45-minute loop around Ag Hill. Tour routes can vary depending on weather. Typically, you will go through our two newest academic buildings—Agricultural Engineering and Animal, Veterinary, and Biomedical Sciences—and past several others. You will also walk through the North Halls residence area, which includes EARTH House, the Ag Sciences Living Learning Community. By the end of the tour, you will have a peak into research, teaching, and collaboration spaces used by Ag students.

How can I see the farm facilities?

Our facilities are heavily utilized for teaching and research and must follow biosecurity protocols, so they are not generally open to the public and are not part of the optional Ag Hill tour. However, there are other activities throughout the year when you can check out our amazing facilities:

  • Ag Progress Days: You can take research farm tours at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center during our annual Ag Progress Days in August.
  • Student Farm: The Student Farm hosts harvest festivals and other events that are open to the community.
  • Animal Facilities: If you are hoping to visit one of our eight animal facilities, see "What else is there to do on campus and nearby?" below for events that are open to the public.
  • Horse Barns Tour: We have arranged an optional tour of our horse barns as part of the October 11 Animals Interest Area Visit.

How can I see a residence hall room?

Student privacy and safety are top priorities, so residence halls are not open to the public. However, there is an example residence hall room that you can check out on your own in Johnston Commons. You can also see this room as part of an Admissions Campus Tour (registration required; see next question).
