My Bass Fishing Adventure Continues!

Following our second place finish this summer on Lake Champlain, ERM grad Grae Buck and I had the opportunity to compete at the FLW College Fishing Northern Conference Championship on Philpott Lake in Virginia!

As with any sport, team members dream of competing and representing their school at the championship game. Bass fishing is no different! As a competitive member of the Penn State Bass Fishing team, I've had the opportunity to travel to many states on the east coast to represent Penn State on the water. This September, I embarked with ERM grad Grae Buck to Virginia to compete at the highest level. We were beyond excited to have the opportunity to fish at this championship tournament. We were provided one day to practice fish, and two days for the competition. The top 5 teams from Day 1 and Day 2 would fish again on Day 3 and the total weight would be added up on the final day of the tournament. When all was said and done, Philpott got the better of us and we finished in 14th place out of 20 teams. We were not satisfied with this performance, but just the opportunity to get that far and to be able to represent Penn State was exciting enough.

I know what many of you are thinking, and wondering after seeing the photos from the tournament—are you the only girl? Yes, I got this question a lot during the tournament. I was indeed the only female to fish the championship tournament, and proud of it! With a three-pound smallmouth on Day 2, I was thrilled to show off my fish to the crowd, and show the small town of Martinsville, Virginia that girls sure can fish too!

Check out these photos of the tournament!
