The Penn State Coaly Society hosts the annual Guldin Speaking Contest - a contest that is open to any full-time undergraduate student in the College of Agricultural Sciences.

The Guldin Speaking Contest is made possible through the Guldin family in memory of Paul R. Guldin, who joined the staff of The Pennsylvania State University as a part-time extension poultryman. He made large impacts on his community, and was passionate about agriculture and public speaking.

Who Is Eligible:
Any full-time undergraduate student in the College of Agricultural Sciences

Contest Structure:
The contest consists of a preliminary round where contestants deliver their speech. Up to five finalists will be chosen by the preliminary judges to compete in the final round. Finalists will be selected on rank score in the preliminary round.

Speech Requirements:
Topics may be on any subject of interest to agriculture. Preliminary round speeches must be 5-6 minutes and length and must not exceed 6 minutes. Final round speeches must be 7-10 minutes long and must not exceed 10 minutes. No visual aids are permitted, although contestants are allowed to use notes. There will be a 3-minute question and answer period following both the preliminary and final speeches.

Monetary Awards:
1st-8th place (subject to change based on entry numbers) are monetarily rewarded for their efforts in the contest. The first-place contestant will receive a $500 award and all awards will be deposited in the Bursar account of the winning students.
