If you have been using the Box Sync (different from Box Drive) application to access Box files from your local hard drive, there are a few things that you will need to do to ensure your files are migrated successfully.
Are You a Box Sync User?
If you are unsure whether you are using Box Sync, the easiest way to tell is to look in File Explorer. If you are using the application, you will see an option for accessing your Box Sync drive.
Why is this important?
Box Sync is an application that makes a copy of your box files and stores them on your local computer. As changes are made to those files, they are automatically synced to your Box account on the web. Prior to your Box migration, it is important to confirm that you computer has been connected to the Internet and the latest copies of the files are synced to your Box online account.
Confirming a Successful Sync
If you are using Box Sync, you will want to confirm you have had a successful sync prior to your migration. To determine the last time your computer synced files with the cloud you can do the following:
- Using the search bar on your computer, search for the Box Sync App and select it
- If prompted, log in with your PSU userid and password
- Once the Box Sync window opens, you should see the date of your last sync. If this is not recent, be sure to leave your computer connected to the Internet to allow a sync to take place. This must be done PRIOR to your migration. We suggest checking this at least one day in advance of migration.
Logging In and Out of Box Sync
Just prior to your migration (or just after) it is important that you log out of your Box Sync app. Doing so will prompt your computer to rescan all of the files in your Box account and ensure they have been set to r the appropriate read-only status. This will prevent you from inadvertently modifying files that were already migrated.
Logging Out
- Using the search bar on your computer, search for the Box Sync App and select it
- If prompted, log in with your PSU userid and password you are already logged out and you can stop now, otherwise, continue below
- Once the Box Sync window opens, click the Settings button
- Click the Log Out button
