The following notice was shared with the College on December 10, 2018 by Ed Zuech, Director of Ag IT.
Good afternoon,
I am pleased to announce our College has begun planning for the migration of Windows user's workstations from Windows 7 to Windows 10. With solid plans in place, migrations will begin during the first quarter of the of the year and continue through the summer.
While Windows 7 still seems satisfactory, it is an old operating system, originally released in 2009. Microsoft Corporation has announced that they will stop supporting Windows 7, which means that there will be no updates released to continue to secure the environment.
While Windows 10 may sound new to you, but it is a well-tested and mature operating system that was originally released in 2015. Replacing an old, unsupported operating system with a current and fully supported version protects you, the college and the university.
More information will be shared as we approach the migration timelines. However, if you have questions or would like support to upgrade to the required Office 365 applications, please reach out to your IT Consultant or contact the Ag IT Helpdesk.
We appreciate your support,
Thanks,
EZ
