This is a list of various tips for using MS Teams for phone calls.

What happens when I am on a call and another call comes in?

  • In Teams app, go to Settings
  • Choose Calls and locate "when you're in a call and receive another call" area
  • Select from the drop-down of 
    • Play busy signal
    • Let new call Ring through
    • Redirect as if call is unanswered (usually goes to voicemail)

How do I put a call on hold or transfer in Teams?

  • In Teams app:
    • When you are on a call in Teams, you should see another window for that call. 
    • In that window here is a toolbar with options such as Hold and Transfer.
  • On phone:
    • Look for the physical buttons on phone for Hold and Transfer.

What should I do if I'm in a Zoom meeting and I get a call via MS Teams that I need to answer?

  • Do NOT click on the box of the incoming call (this will answer the incoming Teams call and you will have double audio)
  • In the Zoom meeting, choose to Leave Computer Audio and take the call

OR if you don't want to take any calls when in an important Zoom call...

  • BEFORE the meeting/Zoom call...in Teams, change status to Do Not Disturb so that Teams does not 'ring'

How do I transfer a call to Customer Service?

  • Put the call on hold by hitting Transfer
  • Enter customer service number
  • Hit Transfer again

How do I add a speed dial number?

  • If needed, call the person that you want to add to your speed dial list.
  • Once that number appears in your history or recent list, then
    • In Teams app, click the 3 dots and choose Add to Speed dial
    • On phone, select the i icon or the start icon to add to Speed dial list

How do I block a number?

  • In the History list of calls, locate in Incoming list
  • To the right of the name/number you want to block, click the ...
  • Choose Block

How do I correct my Emergency address?

  1. On the left sidebar, click the Calls.
  2. Locate the Emergency Location menu below the number pad.
  3. If the location is correct, all is good.
  4. If the location is not correct, click the address and click Verify.
  5. Then click the address again (under number pad) and choose Verify.
  6. This should open a window to Manage your location.
    1. Click Enter address manually.
    2. Enter each piece of the address.
    3. Click Confirm.
