The Marketing and Communications group have developed PowerPoint templates that you can easily download and use to create professional presentations. These templates carry the Extension mark or University mark, the college brand and come with a selection of thumbnail images that address both traditional and nontraditional subject matter. This How To provides steps to save the files as templates and how to use them in your every day PowerPoint presentations.

Visit the Marketing and Communications Powerpoint templates website to access these templates and select the template you would like to use. Once you select a template, click the corresponding .pptx file that is displayed and save the file to your computer. If you would like to reuse these templates often, follow the steps below to add them to your PowerPoint templates directory.

Windows Users with Office365

  1. Go to the Marketing and Communications Powerpoint templates website
  2. Click the category of template you want to look at and then the actual template you want to use.
    • Make a note of which template you are using since we recommend you rename it appropriately.
  3. Choose to Open with PowerPoint file & click OK.
  4. Switch to the PowerPoint application.
  5. Click Enable Editing near the top of the window.
  6. Click the File tab and choose Save As
  7. Rename the file to something meaningful, otherwise it will appear as an odd name when you try to use it.
  8. In the Save As drop-down list, change the file type to be PowerPoint Template (*.potx).
    • This should automatically save to the correct location.
  9. Click Save.
  10. Close PowerPoint.

To use the template

  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. Click the File tab and choose New.
  3. Click the Personal tab under the recent thumbnails area.
  4. The saved templates will load by default.
  5. Click the newly saved template.
  6. A new presentation will open with all 49 slides.
  7. Continue to build your presentation & delete the slides you don't need.
    • Use the New Slide button to select a slide with an applied template.
  8. Remember to Save your presentation.

Macintosh Users with Office365

  1. Go to the Marketing and Communications Powerpoint templates website
  2. Click the category of template you want to look at and then the actual template you want to use.
    • Make a note of which template you are using since we recommend you rename it appropriately.
  3. Click the template you want to use, select Save File and click the OK button.
  4. The file will be saved in the Downloads folder on your hard disk
  5. Move the file from the Downloads folder to OneDrive or Documents.

To use the template

  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. From the File menu, choose Open and Browse to find this template file.
  3. Continue to build your presentation & delete the slides you don't need.
    • Use the New Slide button to select a slide with an applied template.
  4. Remember to Save your presentation.
