Users are able to set alerts to be emailed when changes are made to parts of a SharePoint site. Alerts can be set up for entire document or picture libraries, individual files or folders in a document or picture library, for calendars or pretty much anything else that you may have included in your SharePoint site.

Document or Picture Library

To add an alert for an entire document or picture library:

  1. Navigate to the document or picture library where you would like to create the alert.
  2. On the toolbar, click the (three dots) to access more options.
  3. Select the Alert me option.
  4. On the New Alert page:
    • Alert Title: You may change the name to make it more distinct.
    • Change Type: specify what type of changes you want to be alerted about.
    • Send Alerts for These Changes: specify filters for alerts.
    • When to Send Alerts: specify how frequently you want to be alerted.
  5. Click the OK button.

Files or Folders

To add an alert for a file or folder in a document or picture library:

  1. Navigate to the file or folder where you would like to create the alert.
  2. Hover your cursor over the name of the file or folder and look for the three dots to access the Show Actions.
  3. Click the three dots and select the Alert me option.
  4. On the New Alert page:
    • Alert Title: You may change the name to make it more distinct.
    • Change Type: specify what type of changes you want to be alerted about.
    • Send Alerts for These Changes: specify filters for alerts.
    • When to Send Alerts: specify how frequently you want to be alerted.
  5. Click the OK button.


Calendars

To add an alert for a SharePoint calendar:

  1. Navigate to the calendar where you would like to create the alert.
  2. In the toolbar at the top, click the Calendar tab.
  3. From the Share & Track group, click the Alert me button.
  4. Select the Alert me on this list option.
  5. On the New Alert page:
    • Alert Title: You may change the name to make it more distinct.
    • Change Type: specify what type of changes you want to be alerted about.
    • Send Alerts for These Changes: specify filters for alerts.
    • When to Send Alerts: specify how frequently you want to be alerted.
  6. Click the OK button.


You can repeat similar steps for additional parts of your SharePoint site.
