Due to safety considerations related to a culvert failure and subsequent partial road collapse, Penn State's Forestland Management Office has announced that Watershed Road, off of state Route 1029 (Charter Oak Road) in Barree Township, Huntingdon County, is closed until further notice. Watershed Road provides access to the Leading Ridge Watershed Research Unit, and hunters and others have used the road in the past to reach areas of Penn State's Stone Valley Forest and Rothrock State Forest managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Culvert construction and road repair are scheduled to commence in the next several weeks, weather permitting. In the meantime, although public vehicle traffic is prohibited on Watershed Road, outdoor recreation, including hunting, is still permitted in accordance with Pennsylvania laws and Penn State rules and regulations. Those wishing to access these tracts of land should not park vehicles in a manner that blocks the gate at the road entrance.

Questions can be directed to the Penn State Forestland Management Office at 814-865-7422, 814-865-6272 or psuforestmgmt@psu.edu. More information about hunting on Penn State land can be found at http://agsci.psu.edu/hunting.
