Question #1: What inspired you to pursue the major you are in?

I have always been curious about animals and had a passion for helping them, but never really knew how. I was inspired to study Animal Science because my goal now is to go to veterinary school after graduating from Penn State. I grew up around animals, so I really love the hands-on aspect of the Animal Science major here at Penn State.  The major also exposes you to so many different avenues and careers within the field.

Question #2: What has been the best part of your time in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences?

The best part of my time in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State has been having the opportunity to get hands-on experience with various animals. I was a member of the Swine Research Team where I got to handle pigs. I had the chance to handle mice and rats as a part of an animal science class. Additionally, I have gotten experience working with cows through a research project and with whitetail deer at the Penn State Deer Research Center.  Before coming here, I never had any experience working with any of these animals and it has been amazing to have these opportunities.

Question #3: What do you wish you would have known as a new student at Penn State?

I wish I would have known how small the College of Ag Sciences feels and how welcoming everyone is. I came from a small high school and was really intimidated coming here where some of my class sizes are bigger than my entire high school graduating class. However, you will quickly realize that within the College of Ag Sciences you will see familiar faces in many of your classes and the faculty are very friendly. Just try to put yourself out there as soon as possible and your life will be so much better.
