Question #1: What inspired you to pursue the major you are in?
Since I was old enough to talk, I told everyone who would listen that I wanted to be a farmer when I grew up. My great-grandfather lived on a small beef and swine farm and some of my favorite memories from childhood were of helping him around the farm and learning how to drive with his golf cart. As I got older, my love for animals only grew stronger, and I knew I wanted to pursue a career working with animals.
Question #2: What has been the best part of your time in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences?
There are so many opportunities within the College of Ag Sciences to learn new skills and gain hands-on experience. I was able to get a job at the Penn State dairy barns, and I have loved every minute of it. I have met new friends through the job, and I have learned a lot about the dairy industry and what it takes to run a production facility. I have gained so much confidence in my ability to work with large animals.
Question #3: What do you wish you would have known as a new student at Penn State?
I wish someone would have told me that it is okay to not be involved in lots of clubs my first semester. College can be a big transition. If you get overwhelmed, it is totally fine to concentrate on your classes and learn how to manage your time. In my opinion, it is better to wait to join a club that you will enjoy than to join a club just because you feel like you should. Clubs are definitely a good way to make friends with similar passions, but it is not the only way!
