Question #1: What inspired you to pursue the major you are in?

I have been passionate about caring for animals for a long time, but in high school, I shadowed at a veterinary clinic and knew it was the career for me. Being able to see the relief on owners' faces when I could help their animal and educate owners on the whys and hows of veterinary care was rewarding to me. I feel like I can truly impact a person’s and an animal’s life. Since I knew I wanted to work with animals for a career, I looked for a major that would allow me to have hands-on learning throughout my time in college. The Animal Science major allows me to do just that: learn in the classroom and continue to learn at the barns and through hands-on labs.

Question #2: What has been the best part of your time in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences?

The best part about the College of Agricultural Sciences is that there is such a sense of community, which makes going to classes and studying better. I love that I can walk into the Ag Science and Industries Building and see people I’m in clubs with, say hello to some of my professors, talk with my advisor, or see classmates. I never feel like a stranger on Ag Hill, because I feel part of a community, and that is very important to me.

Question #3: What do you wish you would have known as a new student at Penn State?

I wish I had known that not everything is going to meet your expectations or be perfect—and that’s okay. When I first started college, I wanted everything to be perfect and I had a plan for everything, and when that didn’t happen, it was really frustrating. Having expectations and plans is great, but you have to be okay with those plans not working out. Being flexible and lenient with yourself is a very important skill!
