This award is sponsored by the College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society to recognize excellence in advising undergraduate students in the College of Agricultural Sciences.
About the Award
The person honored is presented with an engraved recognition plaque and a $1,500 honorarium.
Eligibility
All College of Agricultural Sciences faculty or staff members who advise undergraduate students are eligible for the award.
Criteria
Selection will be based on the overall effectiveness of the student advisor as reflected by the nominating documents. Excellence in three areas will be emphasized: academic advising, individual student goal-setting and career planning, and personal counseling.
Nominations
Nominations may be submitted by the College of Agricultural Sciences alumni, faculty members, students, and administrators. The selection will be based on the quality of nominating materials, rather than quantity. Each nomination should be submitted in the following format:
- A one-page document giving biographical (personal and academic) information. Appropriate material might include the nominee's advising schedule within the last three years and the nominee's academic history and accomplishments.
- A one-page document supporting the candidate in the three areas outlined in the selection criteria above, with an emphasis on advising effectiveness.
- Additional material from students, alumni, and faculty supports the nomination. This additional material shall be limited to no more than five letters from current students, no more than five letters from alumni, and no more than five additional letters. The emphasis should be on the effectiveness of advising and the positive influence of the advisor on students.
Selection
The selection committee will be appointed by the Ag Alumni Society Board president, with representation from the Alumni Society (1), students (1), and faculty (3). The selection process will be completed towards the end of April and the award recipient will be notified in May.
