John C. Ewing, Department of Agricultural and Extension Education

Since 2006, Ewing has advised students in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education, serving as the department's undergraduate program coordinator. He also is co-adviser to the Penn State Collegiate FFA, which recognized him with its Outstanding Faculty Award in 2007. In 2009, he was honored by the North Central American Association for Agricultural Education as the Outstanding Early Career Agricultural Educator, an award that recognizes educators with fewer than seven years of professional experience.
"Dr. Ewing does an exceptional job with all aspects of his role as undergraduate program coordinator," said Tracy Hoover, professor and head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education. "His ability to communicate and market a variety of career and academic opportunities available to students is exemplary.
"In addition to his experience as program coordinator, he utilizes his connections with business, industry and governmental agencies and his knowledge of agricultural education programs and teachers in the state to provide students with a variety of career options and opportunities. He is truly an advocate for our students and deserving of this award."
Ewing advises approximately 20 students per semester and teaches the courses "Program and Facility Planning" and "Orientation to Agricultural Education." He supervises preservice and in-service student teachers and serves as co-instructor for AG 150. He also has advised or co-advised four undergraduate research projects since 2006.
Ewing earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural and extension education from Penn State and master's and doctoral degrees in human and community resource development from Ohio State University. He taught high school agricultural science from 2000 to 2003. He is a recipient of the College of Agricultural Sciences NACTA Teaching Award of Merit and the Roy C. Buck Faculty Award in Agricultural Sciences.
